I am speaking to those of you who have a vision for your life: to those of you with a desire to be more and do more.
You have to cut the clutter. Get rid of the junk. Stop the distractions.
What is clutter? The piles of junk in your garage, the stuff you keep at the storage facility, the closet full of cloths that you don't wear, the tv show that you 'can't miss!' The friends that want to meet you at the bar, the family member that say 'you're going to fail.' You don't need 120 channels on your TV. The truth is, you probably don't even need one. How extreme do you want to be? It depends on your goals.
Everything has a cost. The cost of success is that you don't get to indulge in the mundane that the rest of society surrounds themselves with. The cost of being a better person is you don't get to live life in a self-gratifying haze.
It's time to declare your freedom; your freedom from wasted time and money. Walk away from the silly rules that our society has you engaged in. You don't need more stuff. You have too much already. The people you are trying to impress are really only concerned with their own image. The happiness that you feel when you get 'more' will soon fade and the hunger will return.
Get rid of the stuff you don't use. I know, you might need 'it' some day. The great news is you can always pick 'it' up on Craigslist when that time comes.
I have not perfected this. I'm learning too. Let this be a reminder so we can be mindful of reducing our clutter.
There is a cruel paradox of having more stuff and nicer stuff. The more you have, the more protective, selfish and worried you become. Keep only what you need. Learn to say no. Take care of what you have. That will reduce stress!
Think about what you can achieve if you focused your energy. What can you do? How will you change the world?
